The declaration unanimously adopted by 250 participants world-
wide nominated Croatian President Franjo Tudjman as its world envoy
and honorable president of the Association, on the grounds of his
abilities to bring inspiration and quality of leadership to the
promotion of world peace.
By doing so, the congress paid tribute to Tudjman's work, his
contribution to peace, his people and the world community, the
declaration stressed.
President Tudjman's envoy, Croatian constitutional Court
President, Jadranko Crnic, thanking for the acknowledgment, said
"the peace-making world is today in the right country, which
through history, has never attacked anyone, but has always had to
defend peace. The Croatian Constitution contains the word peace-
making as one of the biggest values in the reign of law. The
inspirer of the Constitution is Franjo Tudjman, so these
acknowledgments went into the right hands".
IAEWP President, Surya Nath Prasad, said that this was a
historic moment for the Association which was honored by paying
tribute to the Croatian President.
The recognition paid tribute not only to President Tudjman,
but also to all the Croatian people, Prasad said.
The declaration also pronounced Zagreb, Croatia's capital, as
a world peace-making centre.
The congress supported Prasad's suggestion that IAEWP's
founder, Charles Merciecu, be nominated for the Nobel Prize for
peace, and that the Croatian Red Cross be nominated for the UNESCO
prize for the promotion of peace in Croatia for its devoted,
unselfish and unwearied work for well-being and peace.
