SARAJEVO, Nov 30 (Hina) - A conflict between a small group of
civilians and international police occurred in the southern
Bosnian city of Mostar on Friday night, the UN in Sarajevo said
on Saturday.
The incident took place at 22.00 hours during a search of a
car at a checkpoint manned by NATO-led Implementation Force
(IFOR) troops and international police in Croat-controlled west
Mostar, UN spokesman Alexander Ivanko told a press conference.
Police found a gun in the vehicle and seized it. Later on,
the owner turned up to claim his gun back, but Spanish IFOR
troops refused to do it.
After that, a dozen civilians tried to break into the
station of the International Police Task Force, and when their
attempt failed they overturned a UN-marked vehicle.
Ivanko stressed that the incident happened in front of local
police who did nothing to stop the violence.
The crowd dispersed two hours after midnight.
