MOSTAR, Nov 24 (Hina) - The (Moslem-led) Bosnian special police in
the (Croat-Moslem) Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina should end its
reorganization on Sunday. The International Police Task Force
(IPTF) commissioner Peter Fitzgerald set that deadline, as he had
reached agreement with the Federation Interior Minister Avdo Hebib
and his deputy Jozo Leutar.
The special police in the (Croat-controlled) western part of
Mostar had fulfilled that order to reorganize when they took down
police garment with Herzeg-Bosnian insignia on November 15.
The IPTF commander in the Mostar district Frank Server said
that an initiative for the reorganization of Bosnian Federation
special police had commenced in western Mostar.
However, Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, the capital of which is
Mostar, has neither formed a government, nor promulgated a
constitution and law on police, and that's why Herzeg-Bosnian
special police troops are still serving with local police in
western Mostar.
Sarver said the Herzeg-Bosnian special policemen had passed an
IPTF test, so that they can join police troops of the Federation of
Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Special policemen in Moslem-controlled areas are now expected
to pass the test in order to enter the Federation police.
He added that the reorganization would reduce the number of
policemen in the Federation to about 11,000.
