ZAGREB, Oct 31 (Hina) - Croatian authority representatives on
Thursday held talks with representatives of displaced persons about
the final agreement with UNTAES concerning Friday's visit of
Croatian displaced persons to cemeteries in UNTAES-administered
areas on occasion of All Saints' Day.
Croatian Parliament, Government and President's Office
representatives informed displaced persons about the most recent
report of the UN Secretary-General Boutros Ghali on the process of
peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area.
Deputy premier Ivica Kostovic said after the meeting that the
government was satisfied that UNTAES had organized the visit to
cemeteries, although it had wanted the list of locations to have
been longer.
"Still, we understand that it was difficult for UNTAES to
organize the visit," Kostovic said, recalling that 24 cemeteries
would be visited by 1,910 displaced persons, and that the number of
displaced persons who would visit cemeteries in areas included in
the pilot-project of return was not limited.
Kostovic said the displaced persons had voiced discontent with
the fact that the number of persons allowed to visit a cemetery in
Tenja (near Osijek, very close to the separation zone) had been
decreased from 150 to 50 persons.
As regards the fact that reporters will not be allowed to
accompany displaced persons on their visit to cemeteries, Kostovic
said that this was "exclusively a religious and personal visit".
