OSIJEK, Oct 28 (Hina) - A current list is not final of 28 towns and
villages in the Croatian Danubian area (under the U.N. transitional
administration) where displaced people would like to visit
cemeteries at All Saints' Day (November 1). On Tuesday the U.N.
Transitional Administrator, Jacques Klein, would made a final
decision on the list, the UNTAES civic affairs chief, Gerard
Fischer, said in Osijek on Monday.
It was the safety of people touring the cemeteries that was
most important, Fischer told Osijek-Baranja refugees this evening.
Following assessments by the UNTAES military force's
commander, General Joseph Schoups, it was decided that some
villages and towns must be erased from the list.
The Croatian Displaced Persons' Association head, Mato Simic,
said UNTAES officials and refugees had agreed that people would not
visit cemeteries in towns and villages where the UNTAES could not
guarantee security and safety.
This evening at the Osijek meeting refugees demanded that a
greater number of them should be allowed to visit more towns and
villages in the area in question.
