IFOR BOOSTS PATROLS TO PREVENT DEMOLITION OF ABANDONED HOUSES

SARAJEVO, Oct 31 (Hina) - IFOR has boosted patrols in critical locations in Bosnia-Herzegovina, especially in the separation zones between entities, in order to prevent new demolition of abandoned houses, IFOR spokesman Bratt Boudreau said in Sarajevo on Thursday. IFOR ground forces commander, General Michael Walker, on Wednesday warned representatives of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO), Bosnian army and Bosnian Serb army about commitments set by the Dayton peace accord on the return of refugees. Walker said IFOR would conduct an investigation into all cases of destruction of abandoned houses. Despite all undertaken measures, the (Croat-held) village of Domanovici resonated with new explosions on Wednesday morning. An investigation conducted by members of the multi-national division South-West, established that three abandoned houses previously belonging to Moslems had been demolished. Boudreau said NATO soldiers had stopped a HVO convoy which did not have permission for movement near Gabele (south Bosnia- Herzegovina) on Wednesday afternoon. Thirty kalashnikovs and 1,900 detonators for a 120-mm rocket launcher were found in the vehicles. The weapons had been confiscated and would be destroyed, Boudreau said.
