ZAGREB, Oct 4 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on Friday
received U.S. Assistant Secretary of State John Kornblum, the
President's Office said in a statement.
Kornblum informed Tudjman about his visit to Vukovar (in the
area under transitional administration) and expressed hope that the
UNTAES mandate would end successfully.
Cooperation between Croatia and the United States in the
implementation of the mandate in the Croatian Danubian area and the
process of peaceful reintegration was good, the talks pointed out.
Tudjman said that the central Croatian power would do all that
was necessary for elections in the Danubian area to be scheduled
and held, especially concerning issuing Croatian identification
documents to inhabitants - Croatian citizens in the area.
In accordance with the parliament's resolution on the
termination of UNTAES' mandate on 15 January 1997 and the great
pressure of 80,000 displaced persons and the whole public we want
that the reintegration end within the deadlines, Tudjman said.
Present at today's talks were Foreign Minister Mate Granic,
Defense Minister Gojko Susak, Croatian Ambassador to the U.S.
Miomir Zuzul, the President's advisor for foreign affairs Zeljko
Matic, head of the President's Cabinet Gordan Radin and deputy head
of the President's Office Vesna Skare-Ozbolt, the statement
concluded.
