SPLIT, July 31 (Hina) - The Split harbour on the Croatian coast was
the cleanest in the Mediterranean at the moment, thanks to the just
completed construction of a main harbour sewer, Split mayor Nikola
Grabic told a press conference on Wednesday, adding that Split was,
thanks to the biggest and technologically most improved equipment
for liquid waste cleansing, the only Mediterranean city to have
solved this problem so efficiently.
This was not only the project of the century for Split, but
also one for the future, having completely altered the ecological
aspect of the city, once the most polluted on the Adriatic, Grabic
said, adding that all Split beaches were now clean.
The cost of the sewer was over 22 million German marks, and it
would start working on 2 August, Grabic concluded.
