Tudjman described relations between Croatia and the United
States as good in all fields, expressing his wish that the visit of
Kantor and the U.S. delegation results in the strengthening and
expansion of cooperation in the sphere of economy, which would
strengthen political relations, a statement from the President's
Office said.
Tudjman expressed satisfaction that the mission of the
tragically departed Commerce Secretary Ron Brown was to continue,
adding that the Croatian public would keep Ron Brown in their
memory and consider him as a factor of the strengthening of
permanent cooperation between Croatia and the United States.
Expressing satisfaction with the American political support to
Croatia, Tudjman said that the greater presence of American capital
and investments in Croatia and the Bosnian Federation would
contribute to stability, adding that besides good relations with
the United States, Croatia was interested in good cooperation with
European countries and in entering European integrations.
Despite the difficulties, Croatia was determined to implement
the Dayton and Washington agreements in full, especially the
agreement on the Bosnian Federation, which was the basis for the
creation of peace, stability and the new international order in
this part of Europe, Tudjman said.
On behalf of the U.S. President Bill Clinton, Kantor thanked
Tudjman for his remarkably important and constructive role in the
reaching and support of the implementation of the Dayton peace
accords.
The next challenge were U.S. investments in Croatia, Kantor
said, stressing that the United States would do everything for the
reconstruction of the Federation and the strengthening of economic
relations with Croatia.
Accompanying President Tudjman at the talks were the
Presidential Chief-of-Staff Ivo Sanader, vice-premier Borislav
Skegro, Economy Minister Davor Stern, Croatian Ambassador to the
United States, Miomir Zuzul, Presidential Advisors for Economy and
Foreign Affairs Darko Grguric and Zeljko Matic, the statement said.
