It was stated during the talks that there is 'excellent
cooperation between Croatia and the European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development and that all conditions for the
improvement of cooperation have been created', Matesa said.
So far, EBRD has invested some 199 million ECUs in various
projects in Croatia. Some of those projects have already been
completed, including a project on the rehabilitation and
reorganization of the Croatian banking system, a project on the
reorganization of Privredna banka Zagreb and the successfully
initiated privatization of Croatian companies (for example, of the
pharmaceutical company Pliva from Zagreb).
Future privatization projects should include the Adriatic oil
pipeline as well as the companies Kras, Podravka and others.
Matesa and de Larosiere also discussed loans Croatia has
already received for the reconstruction of tourist resources as
well as possibilities of further provision of loans.
At the end of the meeting, the two officials discussed a
package of projects aimed at the protection of environment.
EBRD president de Larosier should pay an official visit to
Croatia and meet Croatian high officials end October this year.
