The meeting confirmed views about good prospects for this
year's tourist season, but also warned about open problems which
need to be resolved.
The Tourism Ministry will consider the possibility of a
partial refund through value-added tax to the national budget when
it comes into effect from January 1 1997.
Banks will direct the increased credit potential to tourism.
Matesa stressed that the Croatian government could ensure some
150 million German marks from foreign sources which would be
available to the tourist industry.
As regards complaints about the impossibility of buying
foreign currency in exchange bureaus, Matesa reiterated the
government's view that foreign currency in tourism had to be bought
and that there had to be enough kunas in tourist regions.
