The main reason for the suggested amendments was improving the
status of graphic services, Arlovic said.
The amendments would treat the graphic industry as a
production industry and it would be freed from paying taxes for
rendered services.
The goal of the amendments was not to protect the "Novi List"
daily or any other paper, but to improve the situation in the
graphic industry, Arlovic said.
The government could not accept the amendments because,
according to the present law, everyone in the graphic industry had
to pay ten percent of service taxes, Finance Minister Bozo Prka
said.
Prka said that the Finance Ministry would not implement their
resolutions, that is, confiscate the property of those who had not
fulfilled their duty towards the state, until the Constitutional
Court reached its decision.
Opposition representatives supported the suggested amendments.
In concluding the discussion, Arlovic said that the people who
had suggested the amendments were unanimous in the idea that the
final bill be drawn in alliance with the government.
