SARAJEVO, 28 May (Hina) - The Sarajevo municipality of Ilidza on
Tuesday established its Transitional Municipal Council. The Council
also includes Serb representatives who remained in the area after
its integration into the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina. #L#
The Council, which has 70 members, includes 14 Serb
representatives from Ilidza who pledged to participate in bodies of
authority on the Federation's territory.
Out of four Croat representatives from the Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) who had been elected to the Ilidza Municipal Council in
1990, one representative participated in today's session.
Deputy of the High Representative for implementation of the
peace agreement, Michael Steiner, said that the establishment of
the Ilidza Municipal Council was the first, extremely important
step for the future of Sarajevo as one city, but also for the
preservation of the idea of multicultural society in the whole
country. 'The fact that representatives of Bosniacs, Serbs and
Croats participate in the work of the Council is important in that
it represents opposition to those forces which want to see the
country divided'
