In a Presidential statement, the UN Security Council stressed
that the sides have to refrain from any unilateral action which
could threaten the implementation of the Dayton peace agreement,
including the demilitarization process. The statement was issued
after the UN Secretary General submitted a report saying that all
conditions for the beginning of the demilitarization of the
Croatian Danubian area had been met.
The Security Council called on the Croatian Government to
grant amnesty to all persons, who voluntarily or under pressure,
served in the civil administration and army and police forces of
the local Serb authorities in former UNPA zones, with the exception
of those who committed war crimes. The recent adoption of an
amnesty act was a step in the right direction, the Council said in
the statement.
