ZAGREB, May 2 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on
Thursday received Jacques Klein, UN Transitional Administrator
for Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srijem (UNTAES), the
President's Office said in a statement.
"The President expressed satisfaction with Mr Klein's
principled approach as well as his determination not to delay the
process of demilitarization of the Croatian Danubian area.
The President said that local Serbs' attempts to establish
their authority in the Danubian area were unacceptable because it
would betray the confidence of Croatian displaced persons in the
Transitional Administration.
The President reiterated his willingness to grant amnesty to
all those who had not committed war crimes.
At the President's proposal, the Croatian government would
soon hold a session to agree deadlines and programmes for
peaceful reintegration, and Administrator Klein would be invited
to attend.
Croatian officials participating in the talks included
Presidential Chief of Staff Ivo Sanader, Deputy Prime Minister
and member of the Transitional Administration Ivica Kostovic,
Presidential Deputy Chief of Staff Vesna Skare-Ozbolt and the
Head of the Office at the Transitional Administration for
restoration of Croatian authority in the Dunbian area, Ivica
Vrkic.
Mr Klein was accompanied by Military Adviser Michael
Hryshchyshyn," the statement concluded.
