ZAGREB, May 8 (Hina) - A Croatian government representative on
Wednesday met the head of the Zagreb office of the UN Development
Program (UNDP) and a delegation of the UN Office for Project
Services (UNOPS) for talks on a UN pilot project for reconstruction
and development of the areas of central Croatia liberated in 1995.
Filip Marusic of the UNDP and Alain Retier and Roel Hakemulder
of the UNOPS informed Ivan Majdak, government coordinator for the
functioning of civilian authority in the liberated areas, about
their visit to Sibenik County and assessment of possibilities of
carrying out the pilot project in the area, the Croatian
government's public relations office said in a statement.
The aim of the UNDP pilot project is to stimulate
reconstruction and economic revival in the liberated areas and
enable the return of refugees as soon as possible. Other UN
organizations, such as WHO, FAO and ILO, would join the project in
the course of its implementation.
