ZAGREB, May 17 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's House of
Representatives on Friday passed an Amnesty Act For Perpetrators of
Criminal Offences in the Temporarily Occupied Regions of the
Vukovar and Osijek Counties (eastern Croatia). #L#
The amnesty from criminal prosecution applies to criminal
offences perpetrated during armed conflicts and the war against the
Republic of Croatia, or criminal offences perpetrated in relation
to these conflicts, in the period between 17 August 1990 and 1 June
1996. The amnesty applies to persons who are residents of the
temporarily occupied areas of the Republic of Croatia.
The Act will contribute to a faster demilitarization of
eastern Slavonia, Baranja and western Srijem, a more expedient
return of displaced persons and will facilitate a peaceful
reintegration of the above mentioned areas to full sovereignty of
the Republic of Croatia.
The Act specifies criminal offenses from the criminal law of
the Republic of Croatia which are exempt from amnesty.
