MOSTAR, May 3 (Hina) - Two EU envoys, Italian diplomats Luigi
Vittorio Feraris and Alfredo Matacotta, arrived in Mostar on Friday
to discuss the elections with the two Mostar Mayors and the members
of the polling commission. They are to report to the European Union
Presidency on the progress of preparations for local elections in
Mostar, scheduled for May 31.
"The EU regards elections in Mostar as a step toward
normalising life in the whole of Bosnia and reconstructing Bosnia
and Mostar," Feraris said said after meeting the western Mostar
Mayor Mijo Brajkovic and his eastern colleague Safet Orucevic.
He said he had been informed of the difficulties arising in
connection with the elctions.
"They will be resolved," he said briefly.
Mayor Brajkovic said the Croatian side insisted that elections
must be held by May 31 as was stipulated in the Dayton Agreement.
On the other hand, the Moslem side demanded that displaced
Mostar citizens be given the opportunity to vote in the countries
that accepted them, Orucevic said.
