ZAGREB, May 7 (Hina) - The Croatian Journalists' Society (HND)
said in a statement on Tuesday that the aim of the latest steps
by state authorities against the media was "to intimidate
journalists and suppress critical reports."
The HND held a session on Monday to discuss "dubious and
restrictive changes in criminal legislation" and several cases
which attracted public attention, including the questioning by
police of a "Nacional" journalist, a financial coup against "Novi
List" and "La Voce del Popolo", charges against the editor of
"Feral Tribune" for libel against the President of the Republic,
and the closure of "Panorama" over problems with registration.
The HND said it had sent copies of the statement to all
relevant European and American forums.
