ZAGREB, April 30 (Hina) - The Alliance of Serb Organizations (SSO)
on Tuesday issued a "statement on memorial sites and names
significant for the national identity and feelings of Serbs in
Croatia". #L#
Serbs in Croatia supported the process of reconciliation and
were ready to contribute to it as much as possible, the statement
said.
However, they held that "to turn Jasenovac into a memorial
site to all war victims in order to contribute to the
reconciliation in Croatia, would, on the contrary, only deepen
interstate divisions and divisions among other citizens of
Croatia".
The statement also said that this would "establish new walls
between the Croatian and Serb people," as well as "obstacles to the
integration of Croatia into the world community of the progressive,
democratic, free and anti fascist people and countries".
The SSO held that there was reason for certain changes in the
names of streets, schools and other public institutions, but it
believes that "there are tendencies of wiping out anti fascist
symbols and names, as well as names significant for the national
identity and feelings of Serbs in Croatia", the statement said.
The statement was signed by the president and Secretary of the
SSO, Milorad Pupovac and Dusan Radakovic, respectively.
