President Jadranko Crnic. #L#
The conference was opened in the 'Hilton' hotel by the
Hungarian Constitutional Court President Laszlo Solyom, who spoke
about the importance and role of constitutional courts in modern
European societies.
Constitutional Court President Jadranko Crnic said that the
conference did not intend to be some kind of super-national meeting
which would criticize the functioning of constitutional courts of
its participants. The Budapest conference has no intention of
meddling into national constitutionality and statehood of the
conference member-countries. The purpose of the conference is to
create a joint constitutional dialogue which is based on the ideal
of generosity and well-being of every individual and society as a
whole, Crnic said. Tomorrow's topic on the sharing of authority and
the role of constitutional courts in that process would be very
important for all participants, Crnic said.
The Croatian delegation also includes Constitutional Court
Vice President Velimir Belajec, judges Nikola Filipovic and Jurica
Malcic and the head of Crnic's cabinet, Verica Turcic. During the
day, the Croatian delegation had numerous meetings with their
colleagues from other countries.
