The municipal leaders asked Pavletic for support in the
solution of numerous problems, one of the most important ones
being the unfinished distribution of property between the City of
Split and three newly-established municipalities.
Another problem were Split companies, which were the city's
largest debtors. Due to bad financial situation, they were not
paying water and municipal services fees which are the main source
of the city's revenue, Mayor Grabic said, adding that Split and
other large Croatian cities should have a special status and that
the Act on Local Administration and Self-Government should be
changed.
Chairman Pavletic told the Split municipal leadership that
they should solve their problems through their representatives in
the Parliament. He expressed hope that the new act on the local
administration and self-government would help them solve their
problems.
Mayor Grabic informed Pavletic about the reconstruction of the
Diocletian Palace and the city core as well as about the city's
preparations for a great UNESCO exhibition on Split, which is to be
held in Paris this autumn, on the occasion of the 1700th
anniversary of Split.
Pavletic, who is the president of the 'Project 1700'
Committee, accepted the invitation of the Split municipal
leadership to attend the Paris exhibition.
