SARAJEVO, 1 May (Hina) - Bosnian authorities would undertake a
major action to enable each person who fled Mostar during the war
to return and vote in the forthcoming elections for the city and
municipal bodies of authority, Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic
and eastern Mostar Mayor Safet Orucevic agreed at today's meeting
in Sarajevo. They also agreed to secure the arrival of all Mostar
residents who want to vote and visit their city and homes. #L#
A statement from Izetbegovic's office said that all those who
should not be able to come to Mostar could vote in the diplomatic
and consular offices of Bosnia-Herzegovina abroad. This
particularly referred to Germany, Norway and Sweden which accepted
the largest number of Mostar refugees. A special commission headed
by Mayor Orucevic would visit those countries and establish what is
necessary to organise the arrival of the refugees to Bosnia-
Herzegovina and open polling stations in the nearest diplomatic and
consular offices.
President Izetbegovic and Mayor Orucevic called on all Mostar
residents, regardless of their current abode, to 'take part in the
elections and in that way support the unity of their city and the
country as a whole', the statement said.
