HOST COUNTRIES DISCUSS BOSNIA ELECTIONS

GENEVA, Apr 19 (Hina) - Deputy head of the Government Office for Refugees, Damir Zoric, and Croatia's permanent representative at the UN in Geneva, Neven Madey, attended a one-day meeting on the impending elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina at the Palace of Nations in Geneva on Friday. The meeting, organised by OSCE and UNHCR, was attended by representatives of some 20 countries which had given sancturary to refugees from Bosnia-Herzegovina. OSCE representative Robert Frowick outlined the basic guidelines for organising the elections in Bosnia. The elections, which are to be held by September 14 at the latest, should involve about 500,000 Bosnian refugees currently living in other countries. The meeting discussed cooperation with host countries. Croatia currently accommodated 183,000 Bosnian refugees, of whom 80 percent were voters, Zoric told the meeting. Frowick announced that the full list of rules and procedures would be publicised in Sarajevo in the next few days. According to UNHCR special envoy Soren Jessen-Petersen, most of the refugees are not likely to return to Bosnia before the elections. (hina) jn as 192144 MET apr 96
