The majority of Serbs were aware "that Croatia is coming back
to its borders and that the Croatian constitutional and legal
system would be re-established in the occupied area", Vrkic said.
The Croatian authorities would need help from the media in
that process, he said, adding that the presence of Serbian
reporters was a sign of their good will.
Most questions were about guarantees Croatia would give to
Serb citizens to motivate them to stay and about amnesty.
Even though the process of peaceful reintegration had only
begun, progress had been made, Vrkic said. Croatia wanted to
establish a civic society in which all law abiding citizens would
have equal rights, he concluded.
