SARAJEVO, Apr 24 (Hina) - The IFOR command on Wednesday banned all
flights of Bosnian military aircraft, based on a decision by Rapid
Reaction forces Commander Gen. Michael Walker. #L#
The decision is motivated by the fact that the Bosnian army on
April 21 conducted three flights without clearing them with IFOR
first.
The Bosnian army had requested and obtained the permission to
conduct four flights as part of a military parade in honour of the
Army Day (April 21). However, they conducted seven flights, which
IFOR construed as a serious violation of provisions regulating the
control of Bosnia's airspace.
Airspace Control Commander Michael Roche confirmed that
preparations for the establishment of civilian air traffic were
underway. The first commercial flights were expected in late May or
early June.
