BELGRADE, April 23 (Hina) - At Tuesday's session of the Constituent Assembly of the "Serb district of eastern Slavonia, Baranja and western Srijem" in Vukovar, Goran Hadzic was nominated as president of the "district".

Assembly of the "Serb district of eastern Slavonia, Baranja and
western Srijem" in Vukovar, Goran Hadzic was nominated as president

The "Assembly" has temporary significance and at Tuesday's
session its name was changed to "the Srijem-Baranja District" and
its "council" was abolished.
The session accepted a declaration on obligations to implement
the Erdut Agreement and to cooperate with the UN administration.
It also stressed the obligation to protect the interests of
all residents.
The news was emitted by media in Belgrade. According to the
Radio B92 reports, Goran Hadzic told reporters that the
"government" would do everything to make it possible for the people
to remain in the area and be protected in all their rights.
He especially stressed that all those who had worn a military
uniform could stay. The "government" was also said to have taken on
another duty - fighting against crime.
