Linden expressed hope that his suggestion on admitting Croatia
would be given full support by members of the Assembly at the
plenary session on Wednesday.
The Committee for Legal Issues and Human Rights, one of a
dozen committees of the Parliamentary Assembly, had on Tuesday
supported Croatia's application to be admitted into the European
Council as full member, a member of the Croatian Parliament
delegation to the European Council Parliamentary Assembly, Bozo
Kovacevic said.
The committee held that the Croatian legal system satisfied
the criteria set by the EC, but it was warned "on applying the
legal system as regards human rights and the freedom of the press,"
Kovacevic said.
However, he added, "The issue is not of such importance as to
hinder a positive decision".
The Socialist group, the largest of the five groups at the
Parliamentary Assembly, mainly supported Croatia's application for
admission into the EC, another delegate, Antun Vujic, said.
Among the Socialists, the person who supports Croatia's
admission the most is the former president of the Parliamentary
Assembly, Miguel Angel Martinez.
