The head of the office, Ivica Vrkic, warned of a possibility
that the machinery in the whole area could be mined, which would
endanger the process of peaceful reintegration, a statement from
the office said.
The office quoted reliable information from inhabitants of the
occupied area as saying that local Serb authorities had begun hasty
preparations to shut down the oil well and that parts of the
equipment were being taken away in an unknown direction.
Vrkic said it was encouraging that the information had been
supplied by local Serbs who wanted to stay in Croatia and countinue
working at the Djeletovci oil installion which was soon to revert
to Croatian control.
