ZAGREB, Apr 12 (Hina) - The Temporary Administrator of Eastern
Slavonia, Gen. Jacques Klein, on Friday met Croatian Helsinki
Committee (HHO) chairman Ivan Z. Cicak. #L#
The pair discussed the observance of human rights in eastern
Slavonia, cooperation between the HHO and the Temporary
Administration and the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian
Danubian area, the HHO said in a statement.
Cicak acquainted Gen. Klein with preparations for opening
three HHO cenres - in Vukovar, Beli Manastir and Ilok - which would
help citizens achieve their basic human and civil rights.
Gen. Klein showed great interest in HHO's work and pledged
support to the opening of local HHO centres, the statement said.
The meeting noted that a speedy passage of an Amnesty Act
which would provide for the return of all Croatian citizens to
their homes, would spur on the return of refugees and displaced
persons.
Gen. Klein also supported HHO's initiative to organise a panel
on "Serbs in Croatia - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" in Zagreb in
May. It was agreed that a public debate on the issue would help
foster mutual understanding between Croats and Serbs in their
common homeland, Croatia.
