SARAJEVO, Apr 7 (Hina) - In all Catholic churches in Sarajevo
solemn masses were celebrated Sunday in honour of the greatest
Christian holiday, Easter. The Cardinal Archbishop of Sarajevo,
Vinko Puljic, celebrated mass at the Sarajevo cathedral.
"I am glad that we are able to celebrate the anniversary of
the Lord's resurrection today... I hope that the blood-filled days,
such as we experienced in April 1992, are truly behind us," the
Archbishop said.
Defining a true Catholic as one who "loves what is his or her
own, respects what belongs to others and condemns what is evil,"
Puljic urged the political establishment to stop trying to involve
the Church in political schemes.
"Correct what you have done wrong and stop calling on us to
preach hatred," he said tersely.
Senior Bosnian Government officials, including President
Izetbegovic, sent their best wishes for Easter to Cardinal Puljic
and all Bosnian Catholics. The Head of the Islamic Community,
Mustafa Ceric, expressed the hope that the "Easter holidays will
contribute to the strengthening of mutual trust and the restoration
of true peace."
