After last year's Croatian military operation "Storm", the
Croatian Army was gradually conforming to the peace-time status,
Cervenko said.
Since the "Storm" operation, 115,000 soldiers had been
demobilized and 6,000 soldiers who had been mobilized would be
demobilized when conditions were met for the Croatian Army to
function regularly without them, Cervenko said.
Also, all vehicles and facilities have been demobilized.
About 360,000 people had been members of the Croatian Army
units, Cervenko said.
"We are at a stage of reorganizing the Croatian Army into a
peace-time army," Cervenko said, adding that it was necessary to
retain a certain degree of preparedness in eastern Croatia.
"However, this does not mean that Croatia is preparing to take
military steps to resolve the problem of eastern Slavonia,"
Cervenko said.
The first stage in the reorganization of the Croatian Army
concerned organizational and staff changes, the next stage would be
technical provisions, all in relation to Croatia's future
admittance into the NATO pact, Cervenko said.
