ZAGREB, March 1 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on
Friday received the Canadian Defence Minister, David Collenett, who
was accompanied by the Canadian Ambassador to Croatia, Graham Green
and the Canadian Armed Force Chief-of-Staff, General Maurice Baril,
a statement from the President's Office said. #L#
The talks focused on bilateral relations and current issues
concerning the implementation of the Dayton peace accords and the
Basic Agreement on the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian
Danubian area.
Both sides expressed the wish for actively furthering economic
relations between the two countries and increasing the involvement
of Canadian investors in Croatia. The participants stressed the
important role played by the Croatian diaspora in Canada in this
process.
Announcing the Canadian Foreign Minister's impending visit to
Croatia, Collenett stressed Croatia's importance in the
establishment of stability in the region and the successful
implementation of the peace agreements. He especially stressed
Canada's interest for extending the Partnership for Peace programme
to Croatia.
Croatia had greatly contributed to the peace process,
President Tudjman said, adding that in order to successfully
implement the peace accords, Croatia needed strong support of the
European Union, Canada and the United States.
Minister Collenett voiced his gratitude for Croatia's active
cooperation in the quick and successful deployment of IFOR troops.
The Croatian Defence Minister, Gojko Susak, the Croatian Army
Chief-of-Staff, General Zvonimir Cervenko and the President's Aide,
Major General Kresimir Kaspar, were also present at the talks.
