WASHINGTON, March 26 (Hina) - The U.S. financial aid in the
reconstruction of Bosnia-Herzegovina would be approved by mid
April, the Bosnian Foreign Minister Jadranko Prlic said in
Washington on Tuesday. #L#
Prlic is on a three-day visit to the United States and Canada.
Yesterday he held talks with the U.S. Minister of Trade, Ron
Brown, on the economic revival of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Prlic will also meet with World Bank officials. Ten days ago,
the World Bank announced that it would grant a 450-million-dollar
loan to Bosnia-Herzegovina for reconstruction in the next four
years.
The Bosnian government today sent a letter to the World Bank,
saying it accepted the rescheduling of Bosnia's debt towards the
World Bank. This meant that all conditions for the admission of
Bosnia-Herzegovina to the World Bank had been created, Prlic said.
During his stay in Washington, the Bosnian foreign minister
will also meet with Anthony Lake, advisor to the U.S. President on
national security as well as with the Assistant Secretary Strobe
Talbott and aides to the State Secretary for Europe and Human
Rights, John Kornblum and John Shattuck.
The Bosnian foreign minister said that all major obstacles to
the functioning of the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina had been
removed.
'Chances for overcoming difficulties in the Federation are
bigger than ever before, because the most important decisions have
already been made', Prlic said, adding that a failure to implement
the decision on the withdrawal of foreign forces from Bosnia-
Herzegovina would be lethal for the peace process.
'This is an obligation we have accepted in Dayton and we must
fulfill it. Consequences of its non-implementation would be
disastrous, because if economic assistance fails, the peace process
has absolutely no chance', Prlic said.
