THE HAGUE, March 22 (Hina) - The Hague-based International
Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) issued a
statement on Friday confirming the identity of a former guard at
the Bosnian Serb-run Keraterm camp, Goran Lajic, who had been
arrested by German police near Nuremberg on Monday.
Lajic is one of the thirteen persons named in the indictment
"Sikirica and others" issued by the Tribunal on 21 July 1995 in
relation to an investigation into the events of the Keraterm
camp.
Lajic is accused of perpetrating grave breachs of the laws
and customs of war and crimes against humanity.
"He is charged with individual criminal responsibility for
the following acts:
"On an evening in mid-July 1992, Goran Lajic was one of a
group of Keraterm guards who severly beat a group of detainees at
the Camp. (...) Several men died as a result of the assaults.
"Around the latter part of June 1992, Lajic severly beat
Emsud Bahonjic (and other detainees at Keraterm), causing his
death," the statement said.
The ICTY was making necessary provisions for the transfer of
the accused from Germany to The Hague.
