$ AGREB MAYOR
ZAGREB, March 21 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on
Wednesday, 20 March, 1996, decided not to confirm the election of
Mr Ivo Skrabalo to the post of Zagreb Mayor and Zagreb County
Prefect. The decision was made in line with the Act on the City of
Zagreb and the Act on Local Self-Management and Administration as
well as with a Government's proposal of 15 March 1996, a statement
from the President's Office said. #L#
President Tudjman decided not to confirm Mr Skrabalo's
election to the post of Zagreb Mayor because the Zagreb City
Assembly, acting against the Act on the City of Zagreb and the Act
on Local Self-Government and Administration, voted no confidence to
Marina Matulovic-Dropulic, who had been appointed by President
Tudjman. Therefore, legal provisions for the election of Mr
Skrabalo to the same post have not been created either. Marina
Matulovic-Dropulic will remain on the post of Zagreb Mayor and
Zagreb County Prefect.
In line with the Act on the City of Zagreb and the
Government's proposal of 15 March, 1996, President Tudjman also
refused to confirm the election of Vjekoslav Silic and Antun Sporer
to the post of Zagreb Deputy Mayors, the statement said.
