ZAGREB, March 19 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman today received the outgoing Budapest-based Finnish Ambassador to Croatia, Pertti Torstil, a statement from the President's Office said.

Ambassador Torstil stressed that the three-year term of office
in Croatia had been a great honour and pleasure for him, since
Croatia and Finland were tied with strong friendship and many
historical similarities.
Leaving for the post of political director in the Finnish
Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Torstil said that Croatia had great
chances for speedy and successful economic development.
Thanking the Finnish ambassador for the understanding his
country showed for the overall political and economic situation in
Croatia, President Tudjman expressed hope that the already friendly
relations between the two countries would continue to develop and
that Croatia and Finland would continue to develop humanist and
democratic values of the new international order in the region.
As regards relations between the two countries, the two
officials stressed the importance of tourism. Before the aggression
against Croatia, some 60,000 Finnish tourists used to visit Croatia
throughout the year. Ambassador Torstil said that the Finnish
tourists would be visiting Croatia again, already as of this year.
The reception was also attended by President Tudjman's Chief-
Of-Staff Ivo Sanader, advisor on foreign policy Zeljko Matic and
aide to the Foreign Minister, Frane Krnic, the statement said.
