The main topic of the session was a draft agreement on
implementation of an agreement according to which the Federation of
Bosnia-Herzegovina would get access to the Adriatic through
Croatia's territory.
Ploce authorities have recently expressed concern that the
long-term renting of Ploce port to the Federation of Bosnia-
Herzegovina would change the demographic structure of the area and
endanger its stability.
Minister Granic said: 'The agreement is part of the state
strategy with which Croatia is trying, together with the Federation
of Bosnia-Herzegovina, to direct itself towards Europe. Our aim is
to build links with the Federation, but not to the detriment of
Croatia's sovereignty and without changing the political and
demographic picture of Ploce port and Neretva River valley. This
agreement is exclusively an economic agreement which establishes,
exclusively on a commercial basis, a customs-free loading zone in
Ploce port. Freight which belongs to the Federation would be
unloaded and stored in the port, in accordance with Croatian laws.
It is only economic relations we are talking about here', Granic
said, adding the greatest profit from the agreement would go to the
town and port of Ploce.
