TUDJMAN RECEIVES A DELEGATION OF NEWSPAPER, PUBLISHING HOUSES

ZAGREB, Feb 28 (Hina) - On the day of the 100th anniversary of the death of Ante Starcevic (prominent Croatian 19th century writer, politician and member of Parliament), Croatian President Franjo Tudjman received a delegation of the newspaper and publishing houses 'Inacica', 'Narodne novina', 'Dom i Svijet' and 'Drzavnost', headed by Trpimir Maric, Katarina Fucek and Mirko Madjor, a statement from the President's Office said. The delegation informed the President about two completed publishing projects, launched on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Ante Starcevic. The newspaper and publishing house 'Inacica' published 'Djela' (Works) by Ante Starcevic, while 'Narodne novine', 'Dom i Svijet' and 'Drzavnost' published a book entitled 'Ante Starcevic - govori u hrvatskom Saboru' (Ante Starcevic - Speeches in Croatian Parliament). Congratulating the delegation on the success of their houses, President Tudjman reiterated that Ante Starcevic, considering his role in the Croatian history and its political thought, bore with right the name 'father of the homeland'. 'If we had not have Ante Starcevic, we would not have the independent and sovereign Croatian state either, which was realised after the establishment of democratic authorities'. President Tudjman also spoke about Starcevic's influence on current political parties and Croatian intellectuals as well as about the realisation of Starcevic's ideas in the last five years. Tudjman stressed that certain parties were referring to Starcevic's idea but their actions were completely different. The delegation of newspaper and publishing houses also included initiator and organizer of publications, Mihovil Bogoslav Matkovic, editor Josip Bratulic and advertising agent Ante Cagalj. The meeting was also attended by President's Chief-Of-Staff Ivo Sanader, President's advisor on culture, Zlatko Vitez, advisor on public services, Zlatko Canjuga and advisor Andjelko Mijatovic, the statement said.
