OSIJEK, Feb 28 (Hina) - Head of the Croatian Government Office for
the establishment of Croatian authority in the Croatian Danubian
area, today wrote to Temporary Administrator Jacques Klein with a
proposal that a joint expert commission visit the nature park of
Kopacki rit situated in the occupied area. #L#
Kopacki Rit is one of the best preserved natural communities
of marsh flora and fauna in Croatia and Europe.
The joint commission would establish the state of the woods,
animal species and waters which are essential for the life of the
reserve, Vrkic said, adding that the area had been closed to
Croatian and European experts for five years.
"In the spirit of the Agreement on peaceful reintegration, we
ask clearance for the joint commission to visit the area. We
emphasise that the issue is of much larger scope than Croatia's
interests alone and is of importance for all Danubian countries,"
Vrkic concluded.
