ZAGREB, Feb 13 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman tonight received the head of the Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srijem (UNTAES), General Jacques Klein. General Klein was accompanied by
his deputy, Derek Boothby, the head of the UNTAES Civil Sector, Gerard Fischer, Commissioner of the CIVPOL, Hakan Jufors and the commander of the Transitional Administration armed forces, General R. Abad, a statement from the President's Office said.
ZAGREB, Feb 13 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman tonight
received the head of the Transitional Administration in Eastern
Slavonia, Baranja and Western Srijem (UNTAES), General Jacques
Klein. General Klein was accompanied by his deputy, Derek Boothby,
the head of the UNTAES Civil Sector, Gerard Fischer, Commissioner
of the CIVPOL, Hakan Jufors and the commander of the Transitional
Administration armed forces, General R. Abad, a statement from the

At the beginning of the talks, President Tudjman expressed
hope that the speedy and successful implementation of the Basic
Agreement on Reintegration of Croatian Danubian Area would have a
positive impact on the implementation of the Dayton Peace
Agreement. General Klein informed the Croatian President about the
progress of military and civil preparations for the implementation
of the Agreement, the composition of the international UNTAES
forces and the talks he held in the last several days with
representatives of international and European Union institutions as
regards the financing of certain projects within the reintegration
process.
The head of the Transitional Administration asked from the
Croatian authorities to deliver as soon as possible the list of all
members of the Croatian police forces, who, together with the Serb
policemen, would be sent to the area of eastern Slavonia, Baranja
and western Srijem after a shorter joint training in Austria or
Hungary.
The talks also stressed the need for a speedy process of
reconstruction of telecommunication and traffic infrastructure, as
well as for expert assistance of EU countries in the reintegration
of the above mentioned areas into Croatia's legal and educational
system and other social infrastructures. President Tudjman and his
guests also discussed incentives in the restoration of trust,
especially via electronic media.
President Tudjman and his guests expressed concern about the
settlement of Serb refugees from other areas in eastern Slavonia
and stressed that such developments should be stopped.
At the end of the talks, the Croatian delegation, headed by
President Tudjman, expressed full support for General Klein and the
Transitional Administration in their efforts aimed at peaceful
reintegration of eastern Slavonia, Baranja and western Srijem into
Croatia.
The talks were also attended by the head of Tudjman's Office,
Ivo Sanader, Vice Premier Ivica Kostovic, Interior Minister Ivan
Jarnjak, the head of the President's Military Cabinet, General
Slavko Baric, deputy head of the President's Office, Vesna Skare
Ozbolt, Osijek County Prefect Branimir Glavas, Vukovar County
Prefect Vlado Osust and the head of the Temporary Administration
for Establishment of Croatian Authority in Eastern Slavonia,
Baranja and Western Srijem, Ivica Vrkic.
