Small-arms fire was opened twice on IFOR vehicles while
passing through the suburb of Ilidza last night. One British
soldier sustained serious wounds in the attacks. IFOR did not
return fire because it was impossible to determine where the fire
came from, a statement from the IFOR headquarters in Sarajevo said.
IFOR Chief-Of-Staff today talked to the local Serb authorities
in Ilidza about the incidents.
French IFOR troops yesterday began clearing containers and
other obstacles that had been placed on the bridge linking the town
centre with the suburb of Grbavica.
A spokesman of French IFOR troops, Richard Pernod, stated that
the removal of obstacles had been ordered by General Louis Zeller,
in order to ensure effective supervision of separation zones.
Civilians could not use the bridge for the time being because
the local police forbid it, UNHCR spokesman Kris Janowski said,
adding though that the problem might be solved in the next few
days, which would secure full freedom of movement in the area
around the town.
