SARAJEVO, Jan 8 (Hina) - NATO-led Implementation Force (IFOR)
commanders in Bosnia have decided to ask the parties to the peace
agreement to provide additional assurances for the safety of
aircraft landing at Sarajevo airport, an IFOR spokesman in Sarajevo
said Monday.
IFOR spokesman Lt. Col. Mark Reiner said that the demand would
be formally made at a meeting of the Joint Military Commission.
Reiner said that two airplanes had been shot at while
approaching Sarajevo airport on Sunday.
A Falcon-50 passenger plane received two rounds and managed to
touch down while a C-130 plane which come under fire in the early
evening hours gave up an attempt to land.
Rainer said that it was most likely that the attacks had been
carried out by undisciplined troops disobeying their orders.
He added that NATO would take necessary steps to ensure the
unobstructed landing of aircraft.
