Science and High Education said they had gathered to draw attention to the difficult position and low salaries of scientists and university professors.
ZAGREB, Jan 19 (Hina) - Several dozen Zagreb University students
and union activists rallied outside the Croatian Sabor (parliament)
building shortly before a Lower House session on Friday morning.
Members of the Independent Union of Science and High Education
said they had gathered to draw attention to the difficult position
and low salaries of scientists and university professors. #L#
Representatives of the Students Union handed out chocolate
boxes designed like Croatian passports, to show what they described
as their determination not to leave their country.
With iron barriers erected around the parliament square the
police tried to persuade the protesters to move their rally
elsewhere in the city, proposing two other locations.
