The activists said they had informed Tomac on police
obstruction of the rally, carried upon the earlier City Assembly's
decision which had forbidden public gatherings in this part of the
city.
Tomac was also acquainted with the difficulties of scientists
and university professors, said president of the Students Union,
Mario Mandaric, and head of the Independent Union of Science and
High Education, Vilim Ribic.
Describing the protest as "completely justified and legal",
Tomac said the problem must be solved since the knowledge was "a
dearest value a country could possess."
Adding that the Croatian Sabor (parliament) should deal with
the problem, he pledged he would use his lawmaker's mandate to push
for its solution.
