ZAGREB, Jan 12 (Hina) - Croatia's largest trade union federation
SSSH slammed on Friday the recent government decision on the policy
of salaries in 1996.
"The government has thrown a glove on us," leader of the

be staged late in February. #L#
The government had decided to freeze the gross-amount assigned
for salaries at the last December amount, but Lesar described it as
a "flagrant violation of the tariff autonomy."
"It is also hypocritic," he added, saying such a policy was
precisely what hindered the true collective negotiations to start.
"Unlike earlier government decisions of the kind, which had
been limited to the companies in which the state had a controlling
interest, this one also affected those in which the state had less
than 50 percent interest," Lesar explained.
Excepted were only full-private businesses.
Lesar pictured the decision as "a blow to the earnings and
purchase power of Croatian workers."
He also confirmed rumors saying he intended to resign from his
post, explaining he was "fed up, tired and overwhelmed by decline
of inventiveness," after five years in office.
