ZAGREB, Jan 12 (Hina) - US President Clinton's visit to Bosnia-
Herzegovina and Croata was "extremely significant," President
Tudjman's special envoy Miomir Zuzul said on Friday.
Speaking in the Croatian TV news broadcast this evening, Zuzul
said President Clinton's visit was the "culmination of bilateral
relations between the United States and Croatia, which have been on
the increase since President Clinton was elected."
"This also shows support to Croatia's efforts to resolve its
problems, and the understanding of Croatia's role in the peace
process," he said.
Commenting the contents of a draft UN resolution on the
reintegration of eastern Croatia, which is expected to be passed in
the next few days, Zuzul said President Clinton's visit and the
passage of the resolution "coincided not only in terms of time."
"The resolution will probably be passed today or on Monday at
the latest," he said.
"According to our first estimate, the draft is satisfactory
and its contents correspond to what has been agreed in Dayton."
"The resolution explicitly stipulates that a representative of
the US Administration will be in charge of the implementation of
both the civilian and the military aspects of the resolution, as
has been agreed by the United States and Croatia," Zuzul said.
"We mustn't forget that very explicit statements by US
President Clinton and Secretary of State Warren Christopher, that
Croatia would fully regain control of its territory, were also part
of the Dayton process," he said.
"I think the passage of such a resolution and President
Clinton's arrival in Zagreb are symbolically linked. I think we may
be optimistic about resolving the problem of the occupied part of
Croatia. I believe this will open a new page in the relations
between Croatia and the United States, and the whole Western
world," Zuzul concluded.
