SARAJEVO, Jan 11 (Hina) - Advance units of an international police task force have started patrols in a tense Serb-held suburb of Sarajevo, a U.N. spokesman said on Thursday. Alexander Ivanko said 117 police of the U.N. force had now
arrived in Bosnia, tasked to assist in implementing the civilian aspects of the peace accords. According to the accords, the international police force in Bosnia should be dispatched as U.N. personnel and account for 1,700 men.
SARAJEVO, Jan 11 (Hina) - Advance units of an international police
task force have started patrols in a tense Serb-held suburb of
Sarajevo, a U.N. spokesman said on Thursday.
Alexander Ivanko said 117 police of the U.N. force had now
arrived in Bosnia, tasked to assist in implementing the civilian
aspects of the peace accords. According to the accords, the
international police force in Bosnia should be dispatched as U.N.
personnel and account for 1,700 men. #L#
Ivanko added that 60 policemen were stationed in Sarajevo and
had already carried out "two or three patrols" in the Sarajevo
suburb of Ilidza, and other currently Serb-held neighborhoods due
to revert under government control within weeks.
About 50 were sent to Banja Luka region, while another 200
were expected to arrive over next few weeks.
The police had reported to establish good relations with all
sides, Ivanko added.
