SARAJEVO, Jan 9 (Hina) - Sarajevo streets are almost completely

Five 90-mm cannons have been positioned around the 'Holiday
Inn' Hotel, with their barrels pointed at Grbavica. A larger number
of NATO armoured transporter vehicles, armed with light 20-mm guns,
have been positioned in that part of the town as well.
IFOR sources in Sarajevo confirmed that the situation in the
town was very tense although there have been no new incidents since
5.30 pm, when the tram was attacked.
The tram was hit with a rocket launcher projectile which had
probably been fired from one of the four skyscrapers standing on
the very bank of the Miljacka river in the Serb-controlled part of
Sarajevo. No army strongholds should be located in that area and
IFOR soldiers must prevent access of all armed persons to the area,
since both sides withdrew their forces from the city separation
lines on 27 December last year.
According to reports from Sarajevo hospitals, one elderly man
was killed on the spot and 19 others received severe or light
wounds. A child was among the wounded.
Bosnian Presidency member Ejup Ganic warned tonight that the
attack by the Serb extremists in central Sarajevo was a challenge
to IFOR. IFOR had to give a quick and strong response if it did not
wish to get in the same position as UNPROFOR, he said.
Karadzic and Mladic were directly responsible for the attack
and they were doing all they could to rekindle the fighting and
stop the implementation of the peace agreement, Ganic said.
