A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON MONDAY

ZAGREB, Jan 8 (Hina) - The Zagreb-based daily VJESNIK runs a headline "IFOR fires back" in its Monday issue covering frequent assaults on the NATO-led Bosnian peace Implementation Force troops. Two direct attacks were registered while behind another opening fire at a British patrol near north-western Bosanska Krupa was "irresponsible behavior of a drunk Bosnian army soldier," the paper quotes IFOR's Sarajevo spokesman Col. Marc Rayner as saying. The paper carries a comment piece on the situation in the opposition leading Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) under headline "Time for Changes". The piece quotes a senior party official, Bozo Kovacevic, as saying the discontent within the party would emerge even if party had achieved the expected results at the October snap election. After suggesting to the government to issue a public loan for construction of the Zagreb - Split motorway the paper's economic analyst Ivo Jakovljevic recalls the loan issued in 1971, which had failed. The paper also carries a comment piece ahead of the Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic's visit to Belgrade. Another Zagreb-based daily VECERNJI LIST covers the denationalization legislature over the return of the property which had been seized after the World War 2.
